Savannah, GA – In a significant step forward for affordable housing in Chatham County, the grand opening of Ogeechee Place was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the completion of a 204-unit apartment complex dedicated offering affordable housing to individuals and families. This development, situated in the heart of Savannah, Georgia, is a milestone in addressing the critical need for accessible housing in the region.
Ogeechee Place, developed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) financing, is poised to become a cornerstone for families seeking quality living at an affordable price point. With eligibility restricted to family households earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), this development aims to provide a substantial boost to the local community by making sustainable living a reachable goal for many.
The complex features two 4-story mid-rise buildings, equipped with elevators, and offers a total of 306 surface parking spaces. The mix of units includes 28 one-bedroom, 128 two-bedroom, 32 three-bedroom, and 16 four-bedroom apartments, catering to a wide range of housing needs. Each apartment is designed with the residents’ comfort and convenience in mind, promising a warm and inviting place to call home.
Amenities at Ogeechee Place set a new standard for affordable housing in Savannah. Residents have access to a clubhouse, community room, business center, fitness center, and laundry facility. For leisure and recreation, the complex boasts a swimming pool with a sundeck, playground, BBQ and picnic areas, and walking paths through the beautifully landscaped courtyard setting.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was graced by notable attendees, including The Honorable Van R. Johnson, II, Mayor of the City of Savannah, and Earline Davis, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Savannah, and other community members highlighting the broad spectrum of community support and collaboration. Additionally, Chief Development Officer Charlie Irick and Chairman of the Board Hollis Fitch, along with many of Fitch Irick staff were also in attendance.
